Does consistently wearing gles help or hurt your vision?
As you can well see there is much disagreement about this subject even among those whom you would think would be authorities. Alot of the disagreement comes from the nature vs. nurture discussion. Do family members tend to have commonalities because they are genetically related or do they have commonalities because they are exposed to the same environments since they do live in the same family. I think we would be very naive to believe that the environment around us has no effect whatsoever on us. BUT, in regard to vision, it appears to me from my reading of research that the majority of the way we are visually is more dictated by genetics than environment. Having said this, there is some evidence that individuals who are exposed to environments that demand consistent ongoing focusing demands may sometimes respond to these stresses by becoming more nearsighted. There ya go. Even I can't give you a straight answer can I? I guess what I am saying is that for the majority of vision problems, wearing or not wearing your gles will have no effect upon whether your eyes change or not. This is because the prescription you have is directly related to the shape of your corneas. The shape of your corneas is very hereditary in nature and the wearing of eyegles involves no physical contact with the corneas. Therefore, there really is no mechanism for eyegles to change the shape of your corneas.
