What should one follow: the wisdom of the collective or that of the wisest man?

Good question; I could say, "the wisest man" except for one small problem. Who is the wisest man? Will you accept he whom the collective selects, or judge for yourself? See? I guess, if you want to follow, you will have to follow the collective's wisdom....which could be a pretty damn good guide (too bad it's so ignored), but the same problem remains. How will you define "the wisdom of the collective"? Opinions will differ. A poll? A panel of experts?
